In October of 2024 I hosted my first Annual Breast Cancer charity event in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. If you have followed my journey over the last year than you know that this hits close to my heart. In November of 2023 I had a preventative double mastectomy to lower my risk for Breast Cancer due to having the BRCA-2 gene. It’s not a choice I made lightly and the road since has been full of ups and downs.
I decided that I wanted to hold an annual charity event to bring awareness to the cause and raise money for different charities. My story is my why. While my double mastectomy was preventative it has changed me. In so many I feel like a completely different person and slowly getting to know the new “me”. Some days it’s just not easy while other days it feels very freeing. If you’ve been on this journey with me thank you for being kind and making space for me. I continue to grow each day and thankful for the supportive circle I have. My mission is to continue to raise money to find a cure for metastatic breast cancer.
For the first Lisa DiBenedetto Annual Breast Cancer Charity Event, $7,000 was raised and donated to The Breast Friends Fund. Breast Friends Fund donates 100% of proceeds directly to Metastatic Breast Cancer Research under the direction of Dr. Eric Winer and his research team at Yale Cancer Center in New Haven, CT. They are volunteer-run, and operating costs are personally funded by Craig and Sandy Cassanelli. Read more about Sandy, her story and the incredible work she is doing through The Breast Friends Fund.
This amazing day was held at the beautiful Delamar hotel in West Hartford with a team that I am forever grateful for. A special thank you to Andria Bird for designing this a gorgeous dress for me to wear!
